It's about four in the afternoon (China time) on Friday and we are at the Jinan International Airport getting ready to fly to Guangzhou for the final leg of our trip. Yesterday, we received Fujing's official adoption papers and let her cricket go in the park near our hotel and today we picked up her Chinese passport on the way to the airport. In Guangzhou, we will complete the immigration process, get her medical exams, apply for her visa and make plans for the trip home.
Leaving Jinan is somewhat bittersweet. We are so excited to have Fujing with us and to know that she is officially part of our family. And we're anxious to have her meet all of our family and friends when we return home to Tennessee in a few days. But at the same, we also know that we're leaving the province where she has lived all of her life and where the wonderful people who took her in and cared for her these past four and a half years will surely miss her bright shining face.
Watching Fujing run around the hotel these past few days, playing tag with Ethan and giggling boisterously, has made this time together in her country all the more special, and it's easy to see why her nurses loved her so much. Fujing may be leaving Jinan and China, but a big piece of China will be going with her – and with us.
