It's Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day) and Nancy, Ethan and I are sitting on our back porch enjoying the cool morning breeze and gentle Signal Mountain sounds of birds chirping, trees rustling and a faint lawn mower or two off in the distance.
A typical lazy spring weekend morning for us, except that in just a few short weeks, we take off around the world for the journey of lifetime. This past Monday, we learned that China approved our trip to travel to Linyi City in the Shandong Province to receive our new daughter Fujing Gao. We leave June 15 and we couldn't be happier or more excited for us and for Fujing.
For the moment, the calm and quite of this morning is simply a backdrop for all the last minute preparation, coordination, scheduling and communications we'll need to make in the coming weeks. Two years of careful preparation and planning for an international adoption – and the addition of a beautiful young daughter to our family – have come down to one last sprint as we wrap our thoughts around the reality that the time is finally here and we are off to China so very soon.
